Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) was popularized in the early 1990’s by the Gracie family as Royce Gracie used it effectively in the first UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) against much larger, and stronger opponents. Royce was the one of the smallest competitors in the UFC at the time and was able to easily defeat his opponents no matter what art they were masters in. This changed the landscape of martial arts forever. Grappling was no longer just considered a sport, but respected as an effective means of self defense. BJJ allows smaller martial artists to overcome adversity with superior balance, position, and leverage of submission techniques. A highly effective Self Defense art that everyone should learn!!!
